Radiology Suite Gets Upgrade

In June 2017, LCHD radiology department was completely upgraded to a brand new radiology suite. The new suite includes an in house 16 slice CT GE machine and a Fuji digital radiography room. The new CT machine allows for a wider range of exams to be performed, as well as we are able to provide a faster scanning time which will lead providers to a better diagnosis.  LCHD also wants to continue to provide high quality x-rays in which we are able to produce with our new upgrade to digital radiography. The new digital radiography allows for better time management as well works with our already in use portable machine.  All of these upgrades are an all-around quality asset to help provide care for the surrounding community.

Nurses station at Lynn County Hospital has a brand new look

The nurses station at Lynn County Hospital has a brand new look, and more importantly, provides a much more efficient workspace for staff at the Hospital to tend to the details of their jobs.

Using the funds raised by the exceptional generosity of area residents at last spring’s Billy Tomlinson Memorial Hospital Benefit Auction, as well as hospital funds designated for the project, the nurse station project has now been completed.

“The former nurses station was extremely close and cramped quarters, and effectively allowed only three people to work there,” Explained John Baker with Lynn County Hospital District(LCHD).  “The hospital was built in the 1970’s and the nurses station as had a few changes and ‘bandaids’ to fix issues, but it was just extremely inefficient for the ongoing needs of the hospital,” he added.

In addition to new cabinetry, flooring and ceiling work, the area needed new lighting and ventilation, and also encompasses upgraded technology needs and storage space.  All surface materials now adhere to hospital-grade antibacterial requirements, and the counter space is now arranged to comply with HIPPA privacy laws.

“It’s a much more efficient use of the space, its safer, and new work stations and computers have been added,” said Baker.

Work on the project began June 1, and actual demolition of the old nurses station began in August.  The new station is proving to be efficient and much-improved place for staff to do their jobs.

“We are committed to providing a safe and efficient place not only for our staff to be able to do their jobs, but to provide the most effective care to our patients,” said a hospital representative.

LCHD EMS Program Wins 2017 Volunteer Provider Award

Congratulations to our EMS program. November 21st they were awarded the Volunteer provider of the year by the Texas Department of State Health Services. It is a much deserved award given to our great staff & volunteers.

Below is part of the submission by Traci Jolly:
“Our service area is 893 sq. miles and we have 12 certified volunteers (of these only 2 are ALS providers) with 4 drivers. We work as a team and recently that teamwork and sense of “family” shone brightly. When the RAC asked LCHD to staff a unit to send with the strike team for Hurricane Harvey Relief two of our full-time members immediately stepped up requiring our volunteers to stand in the gap. Our volunteer members staff our units nights, weekends, and holidays in addition to their full-time jobs and family obligations. Many times we do not see our families due to answering up for 911. When one of us comes up sick or with sick family you can always count on another member to step in and handle the responsibility on the truck. We are a family and that means something to our service. We are hospital based and not only do we answer calls to 911, but we are also called on by the hospital staff to assist in the facility as well. Sometimes you just need hands. We help when asked. We all have a strong sense of community and a strong desire to help. We are proud of the service we are able to provide, a service of heart.”

Stop by the EMS office to see the beautiful award they were given. 🙂

Seniors Getting Switched to Medicare Advantage with Little Warning: Report

slider3

With Medicare’s specific approval, a health insurance company can enroll a member of its marketplace or other commercial plan into its Medicare Advantage coverage when that individual becomes eligible for Medicare. Called “seamless conversion,” the process requires the insurer to send a letter explaining the new coverage, which takes effect unless the member opts out within 60 days. Medicare officials refused recently to name the companies that have sought or received such approval or even to say how long CMS has allowed the practice.

36th Annual Billy Tomlinson Memorial Benefit Auction

On behalf of Lynn County Hospital District, thank you for supporting the Billy Tomlinson Memorial Hospital Benefit  Auction.  With your generous giving the event raised more than $43,000, which will be used to upgrade Lynn County Hospital District kitchen facilities.

The great dietary staff serves between 4,500-5,000 meals each month.  LCHD food service provides meals for hospital patients and staff, three clinics, Lynnwood Assisted Living Center and Tahoka Drug. Many people within our community also come daily to purchase food.  LCHD will certainly benefit from more modern, energy efficient equipment.

The hospital could not do what it does without the generous support of caring individuals and communities. Thank you again for your thoughtful support of the Billy Tomlinson Memorial Hospital Benefit Auction.

Sincerely,

Jeff Barnhart, CEO
Lynn County Hospital District

Lynn County Hospital District Ambulance 2015Impressive! Hospital benefit surpasses goal, as citizens give generously at auction

If you ask the citizens of Lynn County to give generously for a good cause, they respond with good hearts and deep pocketbooks.  Saturday’s auction event to raise funds for a new ambulance for Lynn County EMS surpassed a goad of $34,000, with early figures indicating the possibility of another $2,500 anticipated to be collected.

Stace Holland, Chief Executive Officer for Lynn County Hospital District (LCHD), reported Tuesday that $34,390.57 had been deposited from the Billy Tomlinson Memorial Hospital Benefit Auction held Saturday at the county showbarn, with more funds expected to come in the next few days.

Tahoka Rotary Club sponsors the annual event, with support from the Tahoka Volunteer Fire Department, who fries the fish and potatoes for the fish fry, to Phebe K. Warner Club who provides their popular homemade ice cream, and Lynn County 4-H youth who sell drinks at the event.  Then there are the local and area businesses, organizations, and individuals who donate auction items to be sold, and the buyers who good-naturedly bid against each other and give deeply.

“I fully expect we are going to be north of $36,000, maybe even $37,000 within a few days, “ said LCHD EMS Director John Baker, expressing appreciation to those who gave so generously.  “People always support the EMS- it’s very encouraging that they appreciate what we do.”

Baker said that with the auction funds committed to the ambulance fund, anticipates that a completion grant may soon be forthcoming.

“We have another foundation that we have been working with for a completion grant of $38,000, and we have had several communications with them.  They say we fit the cirteria they want to give to so now that we can report we have the funds we anticipated raising, we are very hopeful that we get word within the next week that this completion grant  will be approved,” he said.

The new ambulance has already been ordered, and it’s on the way, due to arrive in Lynn County by June 1st.  Baker says the EMS crew is delighted that the service is getting a new 2015 ambulance.

“It will be nice to be on the cutting edge, rather than the trailing edge,” said Baker.  “This new ambulance is nice, just like UMC’s new trucks except ours will have 4-wheel-drive, which we need for all the rural roads in the county.  This will give us a fleet of three good ambulances that will be able to take anywhere in Lynn County, “ he said, adding that the EMS has had many occasions when all three trucks are out simultaneously.

“I am extremely appreciative of the citizens of Lynn County and the efforts put forth by everybody involved in Saturday’s auction,” said the EMS Director
